Our Blog

The NFI Crab Council has entered into a partnership with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center and the University of Maryland’s Institute of Marine and Environmental Technologies to study Blue Swimming Crab enhancement. The work, led by renowned scientists Anson Hines (Ph.D., Director & Marine Ecologist) and Yonathan Zohar (Ph.D., Director of Aquaculture), is designed to be a comprehensive evaluation of various enhancement strategies. Unlike the Put-and-Take efforts of the past, this research will focus on Spawning Stock Enhancement with a goal of long-term augmentation of a fishery’s brood stock. The study, based in the Philippines, will require close coordination with improved fishery management. Check in here for regular updates on the progress of this project.
