On February 3rd PACPI finally saw years of hard work and perseverance pay off through the publication of a Joint Administrative Order (JAO), a legal document that legitimizes the Fishery Management Plan. Hard work in drafting the Management Plan with BFAR, and perseverance in getting the Management Plan approved through a Joint Administrative Order with NFARMC. Currently the FMP is a framework for fishery management that touches on points for sustainable fishing capacity and resource utilization, to be implemented by the Local Government Unit’s (LGU’s). Harvest controls such as minimum carapace size, fishing capacity, gear and fishing ground restrictions, research and development campaigns are all just a few points that the FMP highlights.
