Feed Company GB Aqua Expands into Crab Sustainably

The NFI Crab Council announces GB Aqua as its newest member. An aquaculture feed company expanding into Blue Swimming Crab, GB Aqua has a strong tradition of seafood sustainability.

Founded by aquaculture professional Mark Ingley, GB Aqua has provided valuable information on shrimp larval aquaculture as well as supplied high quality hatchery feeds since 1994.  Familiar with seafood at its smallest level, GB Aqua understands the importance of proper stewardship in developing thriving stocks, a value shared by the Crab Council.GB Aqua has been focused on responsible fishery management since before adding Blue Swimming Crab to their suite of product offerings. “Sustainable seafood has been a part of our company culture since the start,” said founder Mark Ingley. “As a newcomer to crab, we wanted to show our support for crab sustainability by aligning with the Crab Council from the outset.”

The NFI Crab Council funds fisheries improvement efforts in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Sri Lanka. Council members fund in-country sustainability work by assessing a fee on the poundage of crabs they import.

NFI Crab Council Chairman Brendan Sweeny views GB Aqua’s addition to the Crab Council as an important indicator of the Council’s impact.

“It is encouraging to see new crab importers supporting the Council right from the start,” said Sweeny. “GB Aqua’s membership reinforces the importance of the Crab Council’s work and illustrates a growing understanding, from producers and processors to retailers and restaurants, that our ongoing crab sustainability work is the marque effort.
